Fiorelli was replaced by Michele Ruggiero who further excavated the house of Lucius Caecilius Iucundus which had first been discovered by Fiorelli.

Giulio de Petra
Giulio de Petra replaced Michele Ruggiero in 1893 and he is famous for excavating the House of the Vettii.

Antonio Sogliano
As the excavation moved into the twentieth century the director was Antonio Sogliano. He spent a lot of time and money on preserving the houses and buildings which he found and any mosaics and frescoes were left where they were found and guarded against robbery.
